Your itinerary - Mongolia - 9th to 17th July 2010
9 July 2010: Arrive in Ulaanbaatar
Upon arriving in Ulaanbaatar, you’ll be greeted at the airport and escorted to the hotel. After settling in, you’ll be taken on a city sightseeing tour including a visit to the Gandan Monastery, with its huge gold plated Buddha: a symbol of Mongolian national pride and cultural revival. See the monks chanting, spinning prayer wheels and view the intricately embroidered thangka.
Travelling onto Sukhbaatar Square, (which is surrounded by all central departments including the Government house), you’ll enjoy lunch in a restaurant, visit the Natural History Museum, where you have a chance to see all the flora and fauna of Mongolia and complete dinosaur skeletons and eggs.
10 July 2010: Naadam festival preview
After breakfast, there’s an opportunity to leave with the guide and preview the Naadam Festival, visiting the horse-racing arena to watch a race of foals and the archery, “Shagai” (ankle bone) shooters. You can also enjoy a national folklore performance.
11 JULY 2010: The ceremony of Naadam festival
Today you will watch the inauguration ceremony of Naadam, which is opened by the president of Mongolia. You will see a performance of the national instrument Morin Khuur and a choir concert before attending the horse races taking place outside the city centre.
12 JULY 2010: Fly to South Gobi and visit Eagle Valley
It’s an early morning flight to the capital of the South Gobi aimag, Dalanzadgad. The flight takes 90 minutes and on arrival at the airstrip in the Gobi, a local driver will take you to Yol Am, or ‘Eagle Valley’. Yol Am is a wonderfully picturesque place, being surrounded by sheer rocky walls that form incredible canyons. The areas are situated in the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park that encompasses the “Three Beauties” peaks and the most easterly points of the Altai Mountains. Overnight in tourist camp.
13 JULY 2010: Visit Mongolia’s largest dunes, the Khongor sand dunes
After breakfast, you will be driven to Khongor Sand Dune, Mongolia’s largest sand dunes, reaching a height of 800 meters in some areas. The sand dunes change colour with each hour of the day, from yellow to silver to rose-colored at (dawn/ sundown). Overnight in tourist camp.
14 JULY 2010: Visit Bayanzag, land of the dinosaurs
Today sees a drive to Bayanzag, a site famous for the remains of dinosaur which lived here 60 million years ago. (Also known as Flaming Cliff where the first nest of dinosaur eggs ever discovered was found in 1922). You can walk around where dinosaurs once roamed and see saksaul trees and other classic desert vegetation. Overnight in tourist camp.
15 JULY 2010: Fly back Ulaanbaatar and drive to Terelj National Park
After breakfast, you will fly back to Ulaanbaatar and then drive 70kms to Terelj National Park, which incorporates parts of Khenty Mountain Range. You’ll explore the extraordinary formation of rocks and stones, of which some look quite similar to turtles. There’s an opportunity to walk around or ride horses rented from the local area.. It’s then back to Ulaanbaatar.
16 JULY 2010: Ulaanbaatar – Mcorp Global Investment Conference
Today from 10am to 5.00pm, be inspired to make your future travel and lifestyle dreams a reality, off the back of the Mcorp Global Investment Conference. We will be flying in speakers from different corners of the globe to attend. Morning tea will be provided. Tonight we enjoy a performance concert of national folklore and a farewell celebration and dinner.
17 JULY 2010: Depart Mongolia
Today you will be transferred from your hotel to the airport.
